In 2007, I, fresh out of high school, headed to the great North, leaving the Texan sun, heat and armadillos, for the famous Canadian winter, lakes and beavers. Nine years later, I am still here. Why, you ask? Sure, 1% of it might be because of the beautiful city that is Montreal and the hope to one day see the Canadians win the cup. However, the real reason is that I met a girl. Through the wonderful match making skills of Laurence’s sister and her conviction that we would make cute babies, the two of us met in 2008 for a coffee at Second Cup on Park avenue.
We quickly found common interests, travelling, music, the outdoors, but more importantly, we fell in love with each other.
Slowly but surely, we have grown and made one another better. Laurence is becoming more French, learning to dine on charcuterie and cheese with a nice glass of rosé, while I now watch hockey, play in the snow and hope to own a chalet by the lake one day.
However, until we own a chalet by the lake, France is where we make our memories. Each summer, we head there to bask in the sun, sea and wine of the region and we couldn’t think of a better place to share our love with our friends and family.
Once, we knew we wanted a destination wedding, the real work began. Our first step was finding a venue, and we couldn’t have been happier with it. Le Chateau du Rouet welcomed us with open arms. We had the chance to learn more about the history of the place and got to meet the owners who have owned the estate for over a hundred years. Spending the week there prior to the ceremony allowed us to feel connected to the venue while giving us plenty of time to finalize the wedding preparation.
We also both knew we wanted this day to be captured in a very special way. We thought one way to do that was to have both a videographer, Kevin and Laura Lopez from Chromatafilm and Paolo Ceritano as our photographer. While we booked them separately, we were extremely lucky that both were able to work in collaboration to give us the perfect memories of our special day. Paolo captured beautifully every moment while giving us space to cherish the night. We felt in good hands as, for the entire year prior to the wedding, Paolo was very present and communicative, and didn’t hesitate to offer any necessary support. We also loved Kevin and Laura’s energy, passion and artistic skills that made for a unique video.
Our caterer, Borges Évènements, delighted our guests with French delicacies and enough food to last the week. Almost all of our guests complimented us on our choice of menu and caterer.
Finally, we wanted our wedding to represent our life together. For this reason, we handcrafted all of our decorations and made all of our bouquets and flower arrangements ourselves. We also decided to write our wedding script and have the father of the groom officiate the wedding.
In the end, we couldn’t have asked for a better day, and would like to thank all the professionals who helped make it so memorable. The possibility to capture a memory forever is a huge gift and I will never take for granted this privilege. Antonio and Serena gave me the opportunity to do something different and we literally plunged into the Adriatic Sea. We had so much fun!
