Another classic love tale of Cuban girl meets Russian boy…
They met via online dating in Miami, Florida in February 2014. Eugene was living in Miami on a work assignment and Maries had just returned after graduating University. After several dates, it was clear to both Maries and Eugene that couldn’t spend a second apart. Eugene was not only getting to know Maries but he was getting to know the Cuban lifestyle and food, primarily the coffee. He also didn’t realize how much pork the Cuban people eat…his Rabbi would not be proud. Maries was later introduced to Russian cuisine as it she was greeted one morning for breakfast in Fair Lawn – nowadays she can’t stay away from smoked fish.
One Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) Eugene asked Maries to move in together, and then soon realized how little closet space he really needed. In July 2016, they moved to New Jersey where they continued exploring new restaurants and started their hiking adventures. On one such occasion, they stumbled upon a dead body. Maries became a “New Yorka livin in Jerzee”….from shoveling snow to attending broadway shows. On one of their annual traditions of visiting the US Open Tennis Tournaments, Eugene proposed to Maries where after being truly surprised (that she didn’t see it coming) she said yes! Soon after, the destination wedding in Italy was in motion combining Eugene’s Russian heritage and Maries’ Cuban heritage :P. We chose Italy because we both love everything Italian and why not?!
Planning a wedding abroad was both frightening and exhilarating. Our wedding was absolutely spectacular, and we couldn’t have done it without our wedding planner and amazing vendors.
